Colorado Trail

We had planned on renting bikes Monday & Tuesday so we'd have a day to get acclimated to the elevation but we were invited to ride the Monarch Crest trail on Monday. With an 8am departure time, we decided to move our reservations up to Sunday & Monday. Matt picked up a Santa Cruz Tallboy and I got a Santa Cruz Blur . . . both pretty sweet bikes . . . and we hit the Colorado Trail Sunday.

We rolled out from the condo on the bike path through Breckenridge then rode some gravel for what seemed like forever. Matt was cruising along on his 29er FS and I couldn't keep up for anything!

Matt's motto, "Why drive to the trail head when we can ride to it?" . . . I don't always agree b/c it seemed like FOREVER until we FINALLY reached the trail head. I tried to settle in for the 3-mile climb but not only could I not breathe, my legs felt like crap. I had to keep stopping just to get my heart rate to slow which also gave my legs a break. At some point I dropped into my granny gear and that helped a lot . . . still couldn't breathe on the climbs but at least I wasn't killing my legs from mashing.

The SC Blur was awesome! I felt like I was floating over roots & rocks and we had a blast when we finally reached some fast, flowy singletrack.

We finished off the day with some yummy pizza in town. Byron is taking us to Monarch Crest Monday! Matt met Byron at the first DSG and he graciously said we could give him a call anytime we were in town . . . hope he doesn't regret that! :)
