We don't really have anything too exciting going on at the moment but it's been a busy start to the New Year. Christmas came and went, too fast as usual, but we were able to spend some time with family. I even had a chance to sneak down to Savannah to see my mom when Mark and his family were there and spend a few hours with my grandparents, aunt and cousins. Of course we were missing a few but I was so happy to spend the afternoon with a few of my favorites!
We spent Christmas day at my dad's and as usual, there was enough food to feed an army. More fun times with this side of the family . . . we should really try to do this more often.
Matt & I didn't buy gifts this year because we just bought new road bikes this fall and well, those were close enough to Christmas to call it our Christmas presents!
| Love!!! I'll love it even more if I ever get to ride it outside. |
We spent New Year's Eve with the out-laws and had a super yummy dinner at Stoney River. We fell asleep on the couch but woke up just before midnight to say "Happy New Year" and then went back to sleep . . . I know, talk about wild and crazy! :)
Speaking of couch, we've been doing a little updating around the house . . . paint, furniture, bedding, etc. We've been in this house for 5 years next month and well, we'll never be able to sell it so I guess it's time we "move in"! Unfortunately we've been without living room furniture with the exception of 2 chairs, one of which isn't for relaxing, because Ashley Furniture delivered us brand new, broken furniture. So hopefully when they show up Tuesday (2 weeks later) we'll have some nice comfy furniture. Now I just need TV prices to drop a little more!
As far as riding goes, we've been doing some on the weekends when we can but we've mostly been running. We're running the Publix Georgia Half Marathon for my birthday so we've been pounding the pavement a lot. I've also spent a few hours on the stupid trainer these last few weeks. This week I was just catching up on Revenge since I can't seem to stay awake past 10pm . . . nice easy spins. We've also done a few Sufferfest videos to keep it interesting . . . these are no joke either! Matt's been using them for a couple of years but since I've always said "NO" to the trainer, this is my first season of suffering. We even got an email around Christmas about giving the gift of Sufferfest . . . I would seriously question someone's love for me if I received this as a gift. But, they definitely make sitting on the trainer for an hour more exciting . . . maybe even a little fun if that is at all possible! :)
Matt has rollers but I'm just not coordinated enough for those. I really want the Kinetic Rock and Roll trainer but goodness, that's pricey for a torture device . . . I hear it's worth it though!
And since I haven't been to the gym since October (tsk tsk tsk) I've been trying to maintain a little strength by using the TRX suspension training system. I love this thing . . . so versatile and we even got a few training DVDs for Christmas. It's just much harder to make yourself do it but I'm finding that getting up and knocking it out before work seems to be about the only way to get it done. I sure do miss my personal trainer!!!
A couple of weeks ago, Matt raced Snake #1 with about 400 other people and he's getting ready for #2. I decided to sit this year out for a few reasons but this is one of my favorite races so I'll be ready next year! The Chain Buster series (another one of my favorites) kicks off next month at Tribble Mill. I've raced there three times and it's usually miserable because Georgia in August is not my favorite time of year so I'm kind of excited that it's in February this year. Anyway, I'm not sure how we'll race this year but this is another series that you shouldn't miss!
Matt & I decided to join the Northstar crew this year so this should be a fun season! John and Dustin are awesome so if you are ever in Dawsonville, stop in and see them!
I hope you all have a very Happy, Healthy, Successful & Fun 2012! I think it's going to be a great year! :)
